Good
Credit Tips
How must do you engage in good
credit practices? Well, if you're reading this, you're well on your way
to improvment. The first step is the hardest in this case as in most cases,
and we are glad that you've come to us for help.
There are obvious items that appear negatively on your credit report. These
include making payments late, bouncing a check, having a repossession, creditor
suit, foreclosure, bankruptcy and more. Bouncing checks usually don't appear
on your credit report unless you've developed a pattern for them. Generally,
a bank will have a limit of how many bounced checks per month or year they
will allow before they report you. Check with your financial institution.
In addition, making payments "late" can mean any number of things to a creditor.
Some companies give you a number of days before they charge you a late fee.
This period of time is called a grace period. A grace period may be different
for each institution, so check to make sure you are making your payments
within this grace period, or they may be reporting you to the credit bureau.
If you regularly make your payments by establishing solid credit, this also
appears on your report. As it is important to have credit cards and loans
to establish your credit, too many of them can appear negatively on your
report as well. Too much open-ended credit (credit cards for example) can
be a potential risk and many creditors may not lend to you.
